First off, here in Florida we're doing better than we were last election cycle when five out of eighteen house republicans went unopposed by Democrats. We're down to two.
Number 1: Congressman Adam Putnam of the 12th District
Adam Putnam was elected in 2000 at the age of 26. He is one of Tom DeLay's favorite colleagues and is already Vice Chairman of the Rules Committee in the House. His only annouced opponent is USMC Vet Bill Bowlin III who is running as an NPA (Florida's name for independent). The district encompasses the cities Lakeland, Bartow, most of Polk County, parts of Southern and Eastern Hillsborough County, and a small portion of the western edge of Osceola county. It's not unwinnable with the right candidate. According to the Cook Partisan Voting Index, this district is Republican +5.
Number Two: Congressman Connie Mack of the 14th District
2004 Democratic Nominee Robert Neeld won 32% of the vote while spending only $25,275 while Mack, the son of a former Senator spent over $1.85 million. This district is much more Republican than the previous one; Bush carried it with 62% of the vote. It encompasses all of Lee county.
It would be great if we could get Democrats running in these districts before the filing deadline of May 12. If anyone can help out, please do.
